Germany youth teams on their travels

After two friendly victories for the Germany U16s against their Austrian counterparts (4-0 and 3-2), it’s now time for the other Germany youth teams to take the spotlight in a mix of friendlies and qualifying matches. DFB.de gives you an overview of the fixtures:

Things are beginning to get serious for the U19 team. Marcus Sorg’s side face three 2015 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers in six days, all of which will be played in Latvia. They face Kazakhstan in Jelgava on Thursday (12:00 CEST), before taking on Latvia in Sloka on Saturday (15:00 CEST) and then Austria on the following Tuesday (14th October, 15:00 CEST) in Jelgava. The squad includes players with Bundesliga experience – Timo Werner (VfB Stuttgart) and Jonathan Tah, who is currently on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf from HSV.

Three games in Holland for the U20s - U17s to play Spain twice

Likewise, the Under-20s national team have three games in the next few days in their international tournament in the Netherlands. As title-defenders, coach Frank Wormuth’s team will first play England in Heerenveen on Thursday (16:30 CEST). They will then go on to face Turkey on Saturday (15:00 CEST) and hosts the Netherlands on Monday (19:00 CEST), both in Harkema. The squad includes Niklas Süle (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim), Yannick Gerhardt (FC Köln), Levin Öztunali (Bayer Leverkusen) and Pascal Köpke (SpVgg Unterhaching), who is the son of former European Champion and Germany goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke.

The DFB Under-17 side also have two games on the agenda. They will play against Spain today in Nerja and again on Thursday (20:00 CEST) in Ronda. DFB coach Christian Wück is curious to see how his newly-formed team will play after their victory in the Four Nations tournament in the middle of September. “Spain are a top side,” said the former player. “And therefore, it’ll be a good test for us.”
