Zieler: "We need a small miracle"

The players have to face the media in the wake of their games. We have compiled some of the responses of Germany national and youth team players after Bundesliga matchday 26.

Hannover 0-2 Köln

Ron-Robert Zieler: I completely understand why the fans are unhappy and were whistling. We were okay in the first half but in the second we just didn’t do enough. In certain situations it was too easy for the opposition. We knew beforehand that Köln were compact and turned defence into attack quickly. Now you look at the table and see how incredibly difficult it is. We need a small miracle so to speak. I can only hope that we play differently in the coming games.

Leonardo Bittencourt: It was important to get these three points. It doesn’t matter who scored at the end of the day. Everyone has behind me despite the goal drought and I’m happy of course. I have repaid the trust put in me but I need to keep working hard. I wish the best for my former club. I know a lot of people in Hannover and I hope they can get out of the relegation zone. The club with these fans belong in the top division.

Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Mainz

Marco Reus: On the pitch, we were completely unaware of what was happening elsewhere in the stadium. Even the referee asked me what was going on, why the atmosphere had sunk so low. After the game the manager told us straight away. The game seemed insignificant then, it is simply tragic.

Hoffenheim 1-0 Wolfsburg

Kevin Volland: I put away my last two penalties, today it didn’t work out. On the whole we were very solid today and played with real passion. I could have put the game to bed earlier, of course, then it would have been less tense at the end.

André Schürrle: We took too long to get into the game. We had our first shot well into the second half. That can’t happen; we need to be hungrier. It’s very annoying.

Mahmoud Dahoud: I'm delighted that we were so convincing and that we've picked up three more points. Our aim was so get a win after the away defeat to Wolfsburg and I'm happy we managed that. We dominated the game from the start and I think we fully deserved to win. Our defensive work was the key to victory. For my goal, I assumed the Frankfurt goalkeeper was expecting a pass into the centre, so I used the gap at the near post. These were three important points.

Bayern Munich 5-0 Werder Bremen

Mario Götze: It was a long time. I'm glad I'm back and that I can play without pain. I have to be patient first and recover my rhythm. I want to play in the big games too, but I will need a bit more fitness for those, which I will build up in the coming weeks.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Hamburg

Julian Brandt: Most of us still had Thursday night on our minds and it’s not easy to win against a team that has had to whole week to recover. You have to take your hat off to our performance.

Bernd Leno: To get a clean sheet is great for me as a keeper because I had to pick the ball out of the net a few times last week. But the most important thing is that we got the three points.
