Younes and Ajax miss out on Champions League

Confed Cup winner Amin Younes' Ajax side did not make the Champions League play-off round. The Dutch outfit drew the second leg of their third round qualifying tie 2-2 with French side OGC Nice. Having drawn the first leg 1-1, Ajax went out on away goals and will now play in the Europa League this season - a competition which they reached the final of last season.

Arnaud Souquet (3') gave the Frenchmen the lead before Donny van de Beek (26') and Davinson Sanchez (57') turned the game around for Ajax. However, Vincent Marcel (79') equalised for the team managed by ex-Gladbach coach Lucien Favre and sent Younes' Ajax crashing out. The German played the full 90 minutes.
