World Champion Müller fires Bayern to victory

SC Freiburg can celebrate their second win of the season. They beat Roberto Di Matteo’s FC Schalke 04 side who are yet to win a game away from home this campaign. Di Matteo’s side started sluggishly after their Champions League defeat to Sporting Lisbon in midweek and fell behind after 22 minutes when Christian Günter scored his first Bundesliga goal for the hosts. Jonathan Schmid sealed the victory in the 68th minute; capitalising on a poor Dennis Aogo clearance.

Werner scores a brace for Augsburg

FC Augsburg won 3-0 at home to SC Paderborn. Tobias Werner was the standout performer in the game, grabbing two goals and an assist for FCA who move to 10th in the league as a result of the success. Werner opened the scoring in the seventh minute after great work from Halil Altintop. Two minutes after the interval Werner doubled Ausgbsurg’s lead with a header from Verhaegh’s cross, which extinguished any hope Paderborn had of getting back into the game. Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker completed the scoring with 21 minutes left to play.

FC Bayern München head into the international break top of the Bundesliga table thanks to a 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. They extended their lead over Wolfsburg and Mönchengladbach to seven points in the process, but both teams play tomorrow so the lead could be cut once more. Thomas Schaaf’s side have now lost four league games in a row.

Bayern could have taken the lead in the first minute when Ribéry attempted to find an unmarked Lewandowski in the box. Frankfurt started the better side but fell behind in the 22nd minute when Müller scored at the second time of asking. In the space of five second-half minutes the Germany international completed a hat-trick and fired Bayern to victory. He showed extreme composure in both the 64th and 67th minutes to complete his hat-trick, which saw him grab his 5th and 6th league goals of the season in the process. The icing was put on the cake with four minutes on the clock when Xherdan Shaqiri converted Sebastian Rode’s cut-back.

Leverkusen can’t break down Mainz

Despite dominating the game and creating the clearer chances, Bayer 04 Leverkusen drew 0-0 with 1. FSV Mainz 05, whose improved defensive display earned them a point. Karim Bellarabi was the stand out player for Bayer 04 and was a thorn in the side of the visitors, who can thank goalkeeper Loris Karius for preserving a point. Bayer 04 remain in the European places, whilst Mainz drop to eighth in the table.

Köln come out on top against Hoffenheim

An incredible game saw 1. FC Köln win 4-3 away to Hoffenheim. The first-half was simply breathtaking with both teams showcasing an impressive array of talent and deadly accuracy. Hoffenheim took the lead after two minutes thanks to Adam Szalai but soon found themselves 3-1 down thanks to goals from Pawel Olkowski, Matthias Lehmann and Anthony Ujah. With ten minutes left in the half it looked like Köln would take a lead into the break, but a late brace from Roberto Firmino – who will link up with the Brazil squad next week – saw the sides head into the interval level.

Unsurprisingly, the second-half couldn’t live up to the billing of the first but was dramatic in its own way – Olkowski grabbed his second of the game and Köln’s fourth with less than 10 minutes on the clock to seal victory in a game that will live long in the memory.
