Women's National team lose Algarve Cup final to the U.S.

Germany's Women's National team couldn't manage to win the Algarve Cup in Portugal for the first time. In the final on Tuesday in Faro the United States claimed the title by winning 1-0 (1-0). The game.winning goal was scored by striker Christie Welsh in the 23rd minute.

Nonetheless German striker Birgit Prinz was awarded the title "Best player of the tournament" afterwards. In the preliminaries Germany had beaten World Cup runner-up Sweden (2-1), Norway (4-1) and China (2-0) to make it to the final.
