Women: German team clinch Algarve Cup win

Germany's Women National Team has won the prestigious Algarve Cup in Portugal for the first time. The final on Wednesday against titleholders USA had to be decided in a penalty shootout, after 120 minutes of play didn't bring a goal on either side. Germany won 4-3.

Melanie Behringer, Conny Pohlers, Celia Okoyino da Mbabi and Petra Wimbersky scored from the spot for Germany, Wimbersky netting the decisive goal. Birgit Prinz shot wide. For the US-team Aly Wagner, Cat Whitehill and Kristine Lilly were on target. Silke Rottenberg stopped a shot by Shannon Boxx, while Abby Wambach only hit the crossbar.
