Wolfsburg vs. Gladbach: Second vs. third on Sunday

Bundesliga matchday 13 is almost upon us and there are some mouth-watering games to look forward to over the coming weekend. The action gets underway this evening, as bottom of the table VfB Stuttgart travel to SC Freiburg, with some vital points up for grabs for both sides in the game that kicks-off at 20:30 CET. Huub Stevens makes a return to VfB Stuttgart after the resignation of Armin Veh and will be hoping to have a successful start to what will be his second spell at the club in under a year.

Arguably the biggest game to take place on Saturday will be at the BayArena, as Bayer 04 Leverkusen take on 1. FC Köln in the Rhein derby. Leverkusen will want to consolidate their position among the Champions League places against a Köln side that currently sit in mid-table on their return to the Bundesliga. On the back of a 5-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League, Schalke and manager Roberto Di Matteo will be hoping that they can bounce back with a positive result at home to 1. FSV Mainz 05 to continue their unbeaten run at the Veltins-Arena in the league this season. German record holders FC Bayern München also went down at the hands of English opposition this week in the Champions League and travel to the capital to take on Hertha BSC to try and extend their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga so far this season. After jumping out of the relegation zone last weekend with a win over Bremen, Hamburger SV will want to take some of that form into their game against FC Augsburg, who also won last weekend and are now among the Europa League places. Elsewhere on Saturday at 15:30 CET, surprise package SC Paderborn visit second bottom SV Werder Bremen. The late kick-off on Saturday (18:30 CET) sees Hannover 96 visit the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar Arena to take on TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

On Sunday, the game at 15:30 CET will see second take on third as Borussia Mönchengladbach visit the Volkswagen Arena to take on VfL Wolfsburg. Both sides lost last time out in the Bundesliga, with Wolfsburg, who had won their previous six games, losing 3-2 to Schalke and Gladbach being beaten at home by Eintracht Frankfurt in what was a rather surprising defeat. The weekend will come to a close at 17:30 on Sunday, as Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to finally kick start their Bundesliga campaign away to Eintracht Frankfurt. Dortmund, who are currently in 16th, will need to start coming up with the goods in the near future if they want to salvage a place in Europe at the end of the season.
