Wolfsburg reach the final despite defeat in Frankfurt

Germany internationals Almuth Schult, Babett Peter, Anna Blässe, Lena Goeßling, Isabel Kerschowski and Alexandra Popp helped VfL Wolfsburg reach the final of the Women’s Champions League on Sunday afternoon. Despite losing the second-leg of their semi 1-0 against fellow German side 1. FFC Frankfurt, the Wolves progress to the showpiece event, which takes place in Reggio Emilia on 26th May (18:00 CEST). Wolfsburg won the first-leg 4-0 last weekend in the AOK-Stadion. Frankfurt’s goal was scored by Marith Priessen in the 90th minute.

"We won the first-leg comfortably, which meant that things were a bit strange this week. There was a bit of a lull in training and today’s game never really got going. We didn’t really attack today or play that well, however, overall we deserve to be in the final and that’s all that matter,” explained Wolfsburg boss Ralf Kellermann. Popp added: "The excitement is certainly there. It was a tough game today. We could have done more to be honest, however, the tie was all but over ahead of this game.”
