Wolfsburg end the year on a high

VfL Wolfsburg beat 1899 Hoffenheim 3-0 on the final matchday before Christmas in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga. The Wolves had already sealed top spot going into the game and they hold a two point lead over FC Bayern München, who currently lie in second.

Wolfsburg controlled the game from start to finish and the victory was never in doubt. Lena Goeßling gave them the lead in the 26th minute. 12 minutes later Luisa Wensing doubled the lead, which was sealed by Martina Müller (54’). The result means that Hoffenheim end the year in sixth place with 15 points.

Wins for Bayern and SC Sand

FC Bayern München’s win over SC Freiburg could also be labelled as routine. Nora Holstad scored the opener after 15 minutes and Bayern never looked back. Vanessa Bürki doubled the lead 12 minutes later. Mana Iwabuchi made it three after 35 minutes and Bürki got her brace minutes later. The second half was a much calmer affair but there was still time for Iwabuchi to get a brace – she slotted home after 73 minutes to confirm a 5-0 victory for Bayern, who remain hot on the heels of Vfl Wolfsburg. Freiburg lie in seventh.

The basement battle between SC Sand and Herforder SV saw Sand take the points thanks to a 4-2 victory. Early goals from Patricia Hanebeck (10’) and Ilaria Mauro (24’) gave Sand a comfortable half time lead. Mauro’s second goal (54’) looked to have sealed the victory, but goals from Friederike Schaaf (62’) and Giustina Ronzetti (75’) made it 3-2. Any hopes of a grandstand finished and an unlikely point for bottom club Herforder SV were dashed when Christine Veth scored (85’). As a result of the victory, Sand finish the year in 10th place.

Frankfurt get back to winning ways

1. FFC Frankfurt, who had lost their two previous games, beat MSV Duisburg 4-0. They end the year in fourth seven points behind Wolfsburg; Duisburg occupy 11th with seven points. After recent defeats to FC Bayern and VfL Wolfsburg, Frankfurt needed to get back on track and an early goal from Peggy Kuznik (14’) set them on their way to victory. Kerstin Garefrekes (35’) doubled the lead and two late own goals – scored by Dolores Isabel Jacome Silva (77’) and Carole da Silva Costa (87’) – completed the scoring.
