FC Schalke 04 beat Verbandsliga side FC 08 Villingen 4-1 and celebrated their first competitive win under new head coach Markus Weinzierl. Borussia Mönchengladbach had more trouble than expected trying to get past cup debutants SV Drochtersen/Assel, but came through in the end with a 1-0 win.
SC Freiburg picked up a comfortable 4-0 victory over SV Babelsberg 03 and 1. FC Köln managed a 7-0 win against BFC Preussen from the Berlin-Liga. RB Leipzig have gone to extra time in the Saxony derby against Dynamo Dresden, after the sides finished 90 minutes with the score at 2-2.
Also in extra time are the games between Viktoria Köln and 1. FC Nürnberg (1-1), Rot-Weiss Essen and Arminia Bielefeld (2-2), Hallescher FC and 1. FC Kaiserslautern (3-3), as well as Würzburger Kickers against Eintracht Braunschweig (0-0).
