VfL Wolfsburg reach the semis

VfL Wolfsburg have qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League. The defending champions drew the second leg against Swedish side FC Rosengard 3-3. The first leg ended 1-1 but the Wolves progressed thanks to the away goals rule. Three Germany internationals were on the scoresheet for Wolfsburg.

Alexandra Popp put them in front after just four minutes, however, Rosengard impressed in the first period and took their chances. Former World Footballer of the Year Marta levelled the scores after 24 minutes; Anja Mittag put them in front shortly before the break.

Central defender Babett Peter levelled in the second half. She made it 2-2, which meant that as it stood the Wolves were progressing on the away goals rule. Popp got her second of the afternoon to make it 3-2 on the day and although Sara Bjork Gunnarsdóttir (90’+3) levelled in injury time it was too little too late for the hosts.
