UCL disappointment for Dortmund and Leipzig

Bundesliga runners up, RB Leipzig are still waiting for their first away win in the Champions League after being beaten 3-1 in Porto. Leipzig went into the break 1-0 down having conceded early in the match. However, the introduction of Timo Werner yielded immediate results, as the German international equalized in the 48th minute, calmly curling the ball into the far corner. However, subsequent goals from Danilo and Maximiliano Pereira sealed Leipzig’s defeat. The result means Porto move above Leipzig into second place, with two group games still to play.

It was also a disappointing night for Borussia Dortmund, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against APOEL. Dortmund dominated in the first half, and were rewarded for it, as Raphael Guerreiro scored his first goal of the season in his first start to give them the lead. Hoowever, APOEL struck back shortly after the break, as Mickael Pote equalised for the visitors. Dortmund pressed hard for a winner, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had two headers miss by the smallest of margins. However, APOEL held on, with the match ending 1-1. As Tottenham beat Real Madrid in Group H’s other game, Dortmund now sit third place, five points adrift of second placed Real.
