U20s tournament opener vs. the USA

The Germany U20s will today face the USA in Leigh, England to kick off their Four National Tournament (16:00 CEST). Luckily for Germany, the record between the two nations at this level is heavily in their favour, winning on three occasions and drawing 0-0 once.

In their second match of the tournament, Germany will come up against hosts England in Huddersfield on Friday (20:00 CEST), while their third and final match of the tournament will be on Monday (20:00 CEST), again in Leigh, against the Netherlands.

Streichsbier: “Matches of the highest level”

“We’re happy about the three games, which will all be of the highest level,” said Streichsbier. “The tournament is one of three tests before the World Cup in 2017. A large portion of the squad were already in the U19s European Championship squad that played this summer. Again, we’ll look back and discuss how we want to take the next steps as a team, I’m looking forward to the tournament and working with the lads.”

Head coach Guido Streichsbier has called up 22 players to his squad. Most recently, Malcolm Badu of VfL Wolfsburg returned in the place of Marvin Mehlem (KSC), who was deployed in a number of positions in the last two games in September against Italy (1-0 loss) and Poland (3-0 loss). Also, Philipp Ochs, who already has Bundesliga experience with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim under his belt, will make his debut for the Germany U20s. Streichbar will be using many players who were in action this summer in the U19s Euros and qualified for the U20s World Cup in South Korea after finishing in fifth place in this tournament. The World Cup next year will take place from the 20th of May to the 11th of June.
