U17s start Four Nations tournament with win against Russia

The Germany U17s national team have kickstarted their Four Nations tournament, which is taking place in Burton-upon-Trent, England, with an impressive win. Michael Prus’ team eased past Russia with a 2-0 victory, giving them confidence for the rest of the tournament.

"It was a good start to the tournament against a strong Russian team," said the U17s boss. "Especially in the first half, the team had several chances to extend the lead beyond 1-0 In the second half the Russians had more control of the game, but failed to create many chances to score. We’re looking forward to our next matches against England and Portugal in the coming days."

1. FSV Mainz 05’s Merveille Papela put the DFB juniors in front inside 17 minutes at St George’s Park, before RB Leipzig’s Fabrice Hartmann doubled the lead ten minutes into the second period.

Portugal and England to come

Next up Germany face Portugal on Saturday (18:00 CET), before the final showdown with hosts England, who were recently crowned World champions at the U17 World Cup in India with the 2000-year group.
