U17s beat Switzerland 2-0

The Germany U17s got their European Championship qualification up and running with a 2-0 victory over Switzerland. Anouschka Bernhard’s side now find themselves in a strong position ahead of the upcoming games against Russia (Monday) and Austria (Thursday).

Janina Minge bagged the opener midway through the first half in front of 165 spectators and Marie Müller doubled the advantage twenty minutes after the break. Germany made life tough for the Swiss and their attacks were few and far between. Keeper Leonie Doege had a quiet game - she didn’t have a save to make.

Six qualifying groups are being played out this month, with the winner of each pool qualifying for the tournament itself, which takes place in Belarus in May. Norway have already won Group Five, whilst Belarus reached the finals by virtue of being the hosts. The remaining two spots in the competition go to the best two runners-up.
