U 17 continue strong: 4-1 win over Scots

Germany’s U 17 win their second game in the second round of the qualifying round for the upcoming U 17 European Championships. In front of 5500 fans at the sold-out stadium in Rheine, Germany defeated Scotland 4-1 (2-1). Paul Schomann’s team had beaten Greece by the same score on Wednesday.

Toni Kroos from Bayern München had two major chances in the opening 15 minutes, but failed to score. After a nice run, Sascha Bigalke (26.) converted for the 1-0 German lead. Only two minutes later, Kevin Wolze extended the lead to 2-0, with Greg Connell (36.) scoring for the guests from Scotland.

For the second half, Paul Schomann inserted two new players: Richard Sukuta-Pasu (64.) and Marvin Knoll (71.) – both scored to extend the lead to 4-1.

“We had a good opening phase, played creatively on the attack”, said Schomann. “But then we had a let-down right before and after halftime. We regained dominance because of the fresh players on the pitch. Against Ireland on Monday, we need to show a consistent effort.”

German line-up: Giefer – Evers, Teixeira, Pachan, Rausch – Kroos (74. Jantschke), Funk, Wolze – Sauerbier (62. Sukuta-Pasu), Bigalke, Dowidat (70. Knoll).

Germany faces Ireland on Monday (6 P.M.). Only the winner of the four-nations-tournament qualifies for the European Championship in May.
