The German national team lost 1-2 in a friendly in Istanbul against Turkey on Saturday. The hosts started on the offensive against a German team depleted by flu.

Halil Altintop pounced on a rebound to put the home side in front in the 25th minute. Seventeen-year-old substitute Nuri Sahin, playing his first international, then made it 2-0 in the 89th minute. Sahin delighted the home crowd by scoring from another rebound following an effort by Necati Ates.

Oliver Neuville pulled a goal back for Germany in injury time.
