Team council and DFB agree on EURO premium payments

The German players have reached an agreement with the DFB on achievement-oriented premium payments for the UEFA EURO 2008. Should the German team win the championship in Austria and Switzerland (June 7 - 29), each player will receive a bonus payment of 250,000 Euros.

The team council with captain Michael Ballack, goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, Miroslav Klose and Bernd Schneider came to a settlement of the issue in a meeting with DFB General Secretary Wolfgang Niersbach on Sunday, February 3. Team manager Olivier Bierhoff and the association’s marketing director Denni Strich took part in that meeting.

Premium payments kick in only if the team reaches the quarterfinals at the EURO 2008. Qualifying for the quarterfinal would trigger a payment of 50,000 Euros for each player. The semifinal would then lead to 100,000 Euros per player, while a loss in the final translates into 150,000 Euros per player.

The German players will donate part of their premium payment for a charity project of the 2011 FIFA World Cup, which is to be defined at a later time.
