St. Pauli celebrate first derby win since 1977

FC St. Pauli celebrated a prestigious 1-0 victory in the Hamburg derby at Hamburger SV in a match from round 21, postponed earlier this month due to heavy rain. It was the first derby win since September 1977.

Germany striker Lukas Podolski struck twice on Sunday to lift 1. FC Köln out of the bottom three following their 4-2 win over Mainz, as his team picked up their second consecutive league victory. Werder Bremen drop closer to the relegation zone as they are now 14th despite their 1-1 draw with Hannover 96 on Sunday night, which leaves the latter fourth.

On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund took a 1-1 tie in the late kick off of the German Bundesliga on Satruday. Hot-shot Germany striker Mario Gomez hit his 17th league goal of the season as defending Bundesliga champions Bayern München routed Hoffenheim 4-0 in the Bavarian capital to go third in the afternoon.

Bottom side Borussia Mönchengladbach took another step towards relegation when they were beaten 3-1 at St Pauli and had goal-scorer Igor de Camargo sent off. The result cost coach Michael Frontzeck his job after the 46-year-old was dismissed on Sunday evening with no news of his replacement.
