Sorg selects 23 players for the Elite Cup

The next milestone in the build up to the 2016 U19 European Championship. A new generation is taking charge and want to prove themselves. It is, therefore, necessary to put yourself forward for competitions like these. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup will be a dress rehearsal for the U19s, and Sorg has picked 23 players for his squad.

The first game of the tournament will be on 6th October (18:00 CEST) at a stadium in Stuttgart, where the Germans will meet the USA. Three days later they will play Mexico before playing their final game on 12th against Scotland.

Stuttgart trio and Hoffenheim duo selected.

All games will be held in Baden-Württemberg, so for the players they will all be just like home fixtures. Benedikt Gimber and Philipp Ochs have both been picked from the Hoffenheim squad, and from Stuttgart the three youngsters Max Besuschkow, Arianit Ferati and Prince Osei Owusu. Marvin Mehlem, from Baden-Württemberg side Karlsruher, is also in the squad.

The team looked to be in good shape in their last game. They won 2-1 against the Netherlands in a huge match and were convincing in a fast-paced game. Three new challenges now await Marcus Sorg’s side in the form of their Elite Cup fixtures. For the coach, this competition will be a good indicator of his side’s ability ahead of the European Championship next year.
