Sané sends City into the round of 16 with a brace

Leroy Sané scored both of his side’s goals in a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup, to send Manchester City into the round of 16. It took the 21 year old just three minutes to open the scoring, as he finished after West Brom ‘keeper Ben Foster spilled an Ilkay Gündogan shot. Alongside fellow German Sané, Gündogan also impressed in his first starting eleven appearance since overcoming a knee injury.

In the second period, Claudio Yacob netted a surprise equaliser for the hosts (72’), but five minutes later, Sané picked the ball up and dribbled forwards, finding the corner of the goal with a strike Arjen Robben would have been proud of.

Rüdiger claims an assist for Chelsea

Along with Sané and Gündogan, Antonio Rüdiger (Chelsea) and Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi (Arsenal) can also celebrate advancing into the next round of the Carabao Cup.

While Arsene Wenger left Özil and Mustafi out of the Gunners' starting XI against third-division Doncaster Rovers, Rüdiger started and played the full 90 minutes for Chelsea in their spectacular 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest. The defender set up Kenedy’s opener with an impressive cross (12’). Michy Batshuayi (18’, 52’, 85’) scored a hat trick, with Charly Musonda getting himself on the scoresheet too (39’).

Juve win without Khedira or Höwedes

Without the injured Sami Khedira and Benedikt Höwedes, Juventus triumphed 1-0 at home over rivals Fiorentina. The only goal of the evening was scored by Mario Mandzukic, assisted by a Juan Cuadrado cross from the right.

It was the Bianconeri’s fifth win from as many games, but they currently only occupy second place, as Napoli also find themselves on 15 points, but have a better goal difference.
