Rüdiger & Roma into Coppa Italia quarterfinals

Germany national team player Antonio Rüdiger has made it into the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia with AS Roma, and they therefore keep their dreams of a final in their home stadium alive. Currently lying in second position in Serie A, the capital club advanced to the quarters thanks to a solid performance, winning 4-0 against fellow top flight side Sampdoria. They’ll now face Serie B outfit AS Cesena in the next round.

The 23-year-old defender was included in the starting XI, as he and his teammates won the match convincingly, not allowing their opposition much in the way of goalscoring chances. Luciano Spaletti’s team’s goals came from Belgian Radja Nainggolan (39’, 90’), former Wolfsburg player Edin Dzeko (48’) and Italy national team forward Stephan El Shaarawy (61’).

Alongside the nine-time winners in the quarterfinals are World Champion Sami Khedira’s Juventus. The Bianconeri beat Atalanta 3-2 in the last round and face AC Milan next Wednesday (25/01), as they look to book their place in the semis.
