Relegated Greuther Fürth returned with a win in the Second Bundesliga. The team of coach Frank Kramer defeated promoted Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 (2-0). Tom Weilandt (3.) and Nikola Djurdjic (11.) scored. At the same time promoted Karlsruher SC won 1-0 (0-0) at FSV Frankfurt. Dominic Peitz bestowed KSC the late goal in 84th minute. VfL Bochum celebrated a 2-1 at 1. FC Union Berlin. Danny Latza (64.) and Marcel Maltritz (88.) with a penalty were successful, Damir Kreilach (86.) shot the goal for Berlin.

1. FC Kaiserslautern celebrated their first victory after not gaining promotion. The red devils won 1-0 at SC Paderborn, while 1. FC Köln start with a 1-1 at Dynamo Dresden.

FC St. Pauli started with a hard fought 1-0 home victory against TSV 1860 München into the new season of the Second Bundesliga. Earlier on Friday Erzgebirge Aue conquered first place for at least one night with a 2-1 win at FC Ingolstadt thanks to a brace by Slovakian striker Jakub Sylvestr.

In match on Monday Fortuna Düsseldorf won against Energie Cottbus 1-0.
