Reinartz ends his career

Stefan Reinartz has had to call time on his playing career. The former Frankfurt player and Die Mannschaft representative informed Eintracht’s head coach Niko Kovac and sporting director Bruno Hübner of the decision on Friday. The three-time Germany international cited “health problems” as the reason behind the announcement.

“The last three years have been full of injuries and disappointment. During that period I started to look elsewhere,” said the player, who joined the Eagles from Bayer Leverkusen 12 months ago. “After picking up three injuries in the space of the last six months it became pretty clear to me that pursuing other options was the correct thing to do,” he added.

Reinartz made 163 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals in the process. His most recent international cap came in June 2013, when he featured in a 4-3 defeat to the USA. He was in Joachim Löw’s squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
