Real Madrid win Super Cup

A goal in the final minute of extra-time from Daniel Carvajal won the UEFA Super Cup for Champions League holders Real Madrid on Tuesday night. Zinedine Zidane’s side were 2-1 down at one point, but fought back to inflict a 3-2 defeat on Sevilla, who won last season’s Europa League.

Carvajal struck in the 119th minute, but the game only made it to the additional periods courtesy of Sergio Ramos’ (90’+3) late strike in regulation time. Real’s Marco Asenio opened the scoring in the 21st minute but goals from Franco Vazquez (41’) and Yevhen Konoplyanka (72’) turned the game around in Trondheim, Norway.

Real, whose domestic season starts in 12 days, were without many of their star players, including Cristiano Ronaldo (injured), Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale (both rested after EURO 2016).
