Real Madrid and World Champion Toni Kroos get off to winning start

Spain’s record champions Real Madrid began their La Liga campaign with the perfect start. Last season’s Champions League winners overcame Real Sociedad 3-0 in San Sebastian, bringing them level on points with defending champions Barcelona, who recorded a 6-2 win over Real Betis. Europa League champions Sevilla also secured their first win by beating RCD Espanyol 6-4.

Real, who started with world champion Toni Kroos, but were without the injured European Champion Cristiano Ronaldo, got off to a lightning start as Gareth Bale put the side ahead after two minutes. Marco Asensio then extended Real’s lead five minutes before the break, who were also missing the injured Karim Benzema and the suspended Luka Modrić. Bale scored again in the fourth minute of added time to seal the 3-0 victory.

Kevin Trapp and PSG on course

French champions PSG recorded their second win of the season. Germany keeper Kevin Trapp kept his second clean sheet after the French side beat the newly promoted FC Metz 3-0. Lucas (52’) broke the deadlock for PSG after half-time, before Layvin Kurzawa scored the second in the 67th minute at the Parc des Princes. The win was wrapped up in added time when FC Metz defender put the ball in his own net to give PSG a 3-0 victory.

Olympique Lyon’s superior goal difference, however, means they lead the Ligue 1 table ahead of the Parisian side.
