Real and Kroos cruise past Sevilla

Spanish record champions Real Madrid celebrated a win on matchday 20 with World Cup winner Toni Kroos in the starting line-up. Real wrapped up a comfortable 4-0 victory against Sevilla and cut the gap to second-placed Atletico Madrid to just one point. Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Jese provided the goals for the boys from the capital.

Things did not go so well for World Cup winner Shkodran Mustafi with Valencia. His side lost 2-0 to Celta Vigo thanks to two goals in the closing stages. Valencia have now lost their last three games and sit in 14th place, six points above the relegation zone.

Can and Liverpool throw away 2-0 lead

Germany international Emre Can and Liverpool suffered a blow in their bid for European football next season. Jürgen Klopp's side conceded three late goals to lose 3-2 away to Southampton and are now six points behind fifth-placed West Ham United.

Juve win; Khedira scores and sees red

World Cup winner Sami Khedira and Italian champions Juventus have bounced back well from their devastating loss to Bayern München in the Champions League and celebrated a derby win in Serie A.

In their 4-1 win away to FC Turin, Khedira put his side 2-0 up with a 42nd-minute strike but was sent off in the closing stages. The man of the match was Frenchman Paul Pogba, who scored the opener himself and later provided two assists for his team. In the table, Juventus are well on course to defend their title. Chasers SSC Napoli also won at the weekend and remain three points behind.

Loss for Trapp and PSG

Germany international Kevin Trapp suffered a defeat at the weekend, just one week after wrapping up the Ligue 1 title. Paris fell to a 2-0 loss at home to AS Monaco, just their second defeat of the entire season.

After the terror attack in Istanbul, the derby between Lukas Podolski's Galatasaray and Fenerbahce was called off as a result of a "serious threat" of a further attack.
