Poland miss out on win in Ireland

Poland dropped two points in their quest to qualify for the European Championship last night. they drew 1-1 in Ireland and top Group D by just one point. Poland have 11; Germany and Scotland, who beat Gibraltar 6-1, are level on ten points.

Poland took the lead in the first half through Köln’s Slawomir Peszko (26’). Shane Long rescued a point for the hosts in injury time. Peszko’s Köln counterpart Pawel Olkowski and Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski also started for Poland.

Shaun Maloney’s brace (18’ & 34’) was sandwiched by Gibraltar’s first ever competitive goal, which was scored by Lee Casciaro (20’), and a Steven Fletcher strike (29’). Steven Naismith made it four before the break (39’) before Fletcher completed his hat trick with two goals after the interval (77’ & 90’).
