Podolski secures Köln's win, HSV beat Freiburg

German international striker Lukas Podolski scores twice as 1. FC Köln beat Hannover 2-0 in German Bundesliga on Sunday. Hamburger SV win 2-1 at Freiburg, but are still on last place.

Bayern München extended their lead to five points by thrashing Hertha BSC Berlin 4-0 (3-0) on Saturday. First contenders are Borussia Mönchengladbach, even though the "Fohlen" only managed a 2-2 (0-1) against Bayer Leverkusen. Newcomers FC Augsburg had their first Bundesliga win in the ninth try with a 1-0 (0-0) at FSV Mainz 05. Schalke 04 missed second place in the evening match after a 1-2 (0-1) at home against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Ivan Perisic scored the opening goal but was later sent off as Borussia Dortmund won 2-0 at Werder Bremen on Friday on Round nine of the German Bundesliga despite playing almost the entire second half with 10 men. Werder missed the chance to go level on points with leaders Bayern München in a match where they dominated possession.
