Paris lose decisive game to Lyon

League leaders Paris-Saint Germain suffered a shock emphatic loss to Olympique Lyon in the decisive game on matchday 18 in the French top flight championship race. Germany internationals Lira Alushi and Josephine Henning both started for PSG in their home Stade de Charléty in the bitter 4-0 defeat that all but ends the Parisian’s title hopes.

Good chance for Alushi

Camille Abily and Lotta Schelin put the superior guests on the path to victory with first half goals. Alushi had the best chance for PSG on the quarter-hour mark from 20 metres out but Lyon keeper was on her game.

Annike Krahn came on in the second half but she was unable to prevent further Lyon goals. Elise Bussagila with a spectacular free kick from 20 metres and Lara Dickenmann on the counter secured an emphatic win.

Lyon on course for the title

Lyon have therefore taken revenge for their UEFA Women’s Champions League final 16 exit to PSG. Paris Saint-Germain remain first with 74 points but Lyon aren’t out of the picture just yet with 72 points on the board and two games in hand and will ensure that the championship race with the defending champons goes down to the wire.
