Özil’s Arsenal draw 2-2 with Spurs

World Cup winners Per Mertesacker and Mesut Özil featured as Arsenal claimed an important point in their quest for the Premier League title. They fought from behind to draw 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby. Both sides remain behind Robert Huth’s Leicester City in the table. Arsenal currently have 52 to their name and lie in third, whilst Spurs have three more to their name (57) and lie in second. League leaders Leicester have 57 but could add to their haul later this evening when they face Watford (18:30 CET).

Özil and Mertesacker completed the game. The Gunners initially went in front shortly before the break (39’) thanks to Aaron Ramsey’s cheeky flick, however, the tide turned when former Freiburg man Francis Coquelin received his marching orders after 55 minutes. Goals from Toby Alderweireld (60’) and Harry Kane (62’) gave Spurs the lead but Alexis Sanchez rescued a point for Arsène Wenger’s side with just 14 to play.

Ronaldo scores four in 7-1 win over Vigo

Real Madrid celebrated a comfortable win in the absence of Toni Kroos. They beat sixth-placed Celta Vigo 7-1 at the Bernabeu despite the guests holding out for 41 minutes until Pepe put his side in the lead. In the second half, the Cristiano Ronaldo show began, with the Portuguese attacker scoring four times. Jese and Gareth Bale also added a goal each, with Vigo's strike coming through Iago Aspas.

Trapp and Paris only manage draw ahead of Chelsea clash

Kevin Trapp and French champions Paris St. Germain are clearly feeling the effects of their first defeat of the season. Four days ahead of their Champions League round-of-16 second leg away to Chelsea FC, the league leaders laboured to a 0-0 draw against HSC Montpellier. Second-placed AS Monaco could not gain any ground on the leaders as they also drew this weekend, meaning the gap at the top remains 23 points.
