Özil grabs a hat trick in Arsenal rout

Three goals and an assist. This was World Champion Mesut Özil’s contribution to Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets in their Champions League group stage fixture tonight. This win takes his club one step closer to the goal of qualifying for the knockout rounds, as Shkodran Mustafi also featured for Arsenal, who find themselves joint top of Group A with PSG on seven points.

Özil had a great night overall, first setting up Theo Walcott’s strike in the 42nd minute, and then getting on the scoresheet himself three times in the second half(56’, 83’, 87’). Alexis Sánchez put the Londoners in the lead early on (12’), while Arsenal’s other goal was scored by Englishman Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (47’).

Messi scores three against former boss

Pep Guardiola’s return to his home town club wasn’t a successful one, as he lost 4-0 to Barcelona on Wednesday night. This result means Barcelona have won all three of their group stage games so far and so enjoy a five point advantage over second-placed City (four points).

Superstar Messi impressed once again for the Catalan giants, as the Argentine was playing just his second game after returning from injury. Marc-André ter Stegen played the full 90 minutes for Barca, while another Germany international, Ilkay Gündogan, played 79 minutes for the Citizens.
