Özil and Arsenal go top of the Premier League

Mesut Özil and Shkrodran Mustafi have set the pace on Premier League matchday 10. Arsenal’s Germany internationals have jumped to top spot in the Premier League following a 4-1 win over AFC Sunderland. Özil once again acted as Arsenal’s main playmaker, and helped create several dangerous attacks, while Mustafi showed a flawless performance in the centre of defence.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring for the Gunners after 19 minutes, getting on the end of a wonderful cross by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Despite Arsenal dominating the game, Sunderland pulled level again after the break thanks to Jermain Defoe’s penalty. Substitute Oliver Giroud restored Arsenal’s lead and claimed a second goal shortly after to give the Gunners a 3-1 lead. The finishing touch came at the hands of Sanchez, who scored from close ranger after Kieran Gibbs’ effort struck the post.

Germany internationals Ilkay Gündogan and Leroy Sané at Manchester City and Emre Can at Liverpool are in close pursuit of Arsenal and could still go ahead of them this weekend, depending on their teams’ results.
