Özil and Arsenal back in fifth

Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League are still alive. Arsene Wenger’s side won by a scoreline of 2-0 against Southampton, which was good enough to propel them back up to fifth place in the Premier League table. They are still three points behind Manchester City, who are in fourth.

Mesut Özil created the chance through which they took the lead: the World Cup winner passed the ball to Alexis Sanchez in the 60th minute, who finished from 15 metres out. Olivier Giroud (83’) was only on the pitch for three minutes before his header put the result beyond doubt. Shkodran Mustafi started for Arsenal, thereby making his comeback from a thigh problem which had kept him out for a month.
