Energie Cottbus and Union Berlin clinched Round 16 on monday with a scoreless tie. With the draw, Cottbus missed the chance to cut the distance to the top of the standings and is in sixth place now. Union Berlin is in place 14 now.

Hertha BSC Berlin climbed to second place by beating former leader Erzgebirge Aue 2-0 on Sunday. The team from the German capital are now level on points with new top of the table Augsburg, who took over the top position with a 2-1 at FSV Frankfurt on Saturday. SC Paderborn and MSV Duisburg tied scoreless.

In their first home game under new coach Uwe Rapolder, Karlsruhe beat Arminia Bielefeld 1-0 (1-0). Timo Staffeldt (27.) scored the only goal of the match. With their fourth win of the season, Karlsruhe climbed up in the standings, leaving the relegation spot.
