New Presidential Board elected – Niersbach General Secretary

The entire DFB Steering Committee has reveived a unanimous vote by the biannual Congress, which was held in Mainz on Thursday an Friday. Incumbent Dr. Theo Zwanziger will continue to lead the DFB as the President of the 6.5 million member organisation. The 62-year old Zwanziger said: "There is no more rewarding office in Germany. I’m thankful to hold this position for another three years, and will do everything in my power to deserve your trust."

After 15 successful years as the DFB General Secretary, Horst R. Schmidt left this office because he had reached the age limit. Schmidt will continue his service for the DFB as the new Treasurer, while Wolfgang Niersbach, a former Vice-President of the World Cup Organising Committee, takes over as the new General Secretary.

Besides Dr. Zwanziger and Horst R. Schmidt, the following persons constitute the newly elected DFB Presidential Board: Hermann Korfmacher (Vice-President Amateur Football), Dr. Hans-Georg Moldenhauer (Vice-President Qualifications), Rolf Hocke (Vice-President Prevention, Integration, Leisure Sports), Dr. Hans-Dieter Drewitz (Vice-President Youth Football), Dr. Rainer Koch (Vice-President Legal Issues), Hannelore Ratzeburg (Vice-President Women Football) and Karl Rothmund (Vice President Charity and Social Issues).

The plenum also confirmed the proposed four representatives from the League Assocation (Ligaverband), who will join the DFB Presidential Board: Dr. Reinhard Rauball, Christian Seifert, Peter Peters and Harald Strutz.

Former DFB President Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder has been named Honorary DFB President. The newly elected DFB General Secretary Wolfgang Niersbach also joins the Presidential Board.
