Neuer: "Points against Hertha are more important"

FC Bayern München lost in the Champions League for the first time this season. Last season’s semi-finalists had already confirmed top spot ahead of the game lost 3-2 Manchester City thanks to a last gasp winner, despite leading 2-1 with just over five minutes left on the clock. World Champion and Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer spoke to DFB.de after the game about Bayern’s second competitive defeat of the season and the upcoming Bundesliga match in Berlin on Saturday (15:30 CET).

Question: Mr Neuer, it’s your first defeat since the Supercup clash with Dortmund. How are you feeling about the game?

Manuel Neuer: It’s disappointing because we nearly hang on despite having ten men.

Question: You appear annoyed.

Neuer: It’s annoying to lose the game. We almost pulled off something sensational.

Question: What do you make of the goals scored by Sergio Aguero?

Neuer: We created problems for ourselves which they capitalised on.

Question: Were the individual errors crucial?

Neuer: They scored from a penalty and two errors. But things like this happen when you’ve played with ten men for such a long time. It’s relatively normal.

Question: And how much of a role did Augero play?

Neuer: I almost kept all three out. Admittedly, I was always just a couple of centimetres away from the shots.

Question: Does the manner of the defeat mean today hurts more than usual?

Neuer: The annoying thing is that we weren’t rewarded for a good performance. We gave it our all, fought hard – it’s a huge shame that we weren’t able to pull off something spectacular.

Question: What can you take away from the game?

Neuer: We played well and we can be proud of our performance.

Question: What were you especially impressed by?

Neuer: We kept the ball well against an impressive side despite having ten men.

Question: The desire to win was clear to see even though you’ve already qualified.

Neuer: It’s the Champions League. We played against a great team and obviously wanted to do well.

Question: At the end of the day, it’s only the lack of points that is annoying?

1

Neuer: The points against Hertha are more important.

Question: And looking ahead to final group game against CSKA Moscow (10th December, 20:45 CET) in Munich. Are you looking forward to the game?

Neuer: It’s an international match and an excellent competition which we’re delighted to be in. We obviously want to win the match. But we need to make sure that we don’t pick up injuries.
