Müller overtakes Kirsten in all-time goalscorer charts

With his 35th and 36th national team goals in the World Cup qualifier against Czech Republic, world champion Thomas Müller has overtaken Ulf Kirsten in the national team’s all-time goalscorer charts. After a brace against Norway during the last international break, Müller added another two to his tally in what was his 80th appearance for Die Mannschaft. It was his eighth brace for the national team, taking him up to eleventh in the table.

It took Kirsten 100 matches to reach 34 goals. The former Dresden and Leverkusen player scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for the East Germany national team, before scoring another 20 in 51 games for a unified Germany. Miroslav Klose remains top of the list with 71 goals.
