Meinert selects three uncapped players for qualifiers in Ireland

Although DFB coach Maren Meinert is relying on experienced players for the second round of European Championship qualifiers, she has still included three uncapped players in the squad. There is a chance that defender Andrea Viehl (Bayern München) as well as midfielders Lina Hausicke (FF USV Jena) and Isabella Möller (FFC Frankfurt) could make their debuts for the women’s under 19’s side in one of the three qualifiers against Azerbaijan, (5th April, 19:30 local time, 20:30 CEST), Ireland (7th April, 14:00 local time, 15:00 CEST) and Poland (10th April 14:00 local time, 15:00 CEST).

Most of the 18 players selected for the squad – nine more are ready on standby – have already proven themselves at the international level. The attack is relying on the prolific trio of Ricarda Walkling (four goals in three games), Laura Freigang (seven goals in ten games) and Stefanie-Antonia Sanders (five goals in three games).

Maren Meinert’s team qualified for the second qualifying round as group winners in September. In the first round, the U19 women’s won their three matches convincingly, beating Hungary 2-0, Kazakhstan 7-0 and Serbia 6-1.

The six group winners and the second placed side with the best record against their group‘s leader and third place will take part in the final round in Slovakia from 19th July until 31st July.
