Matchday 12: Can anyone stop Bayern?

After a two week hiatus due to international action, domestic football returns tomorrow. Matchday 12 of the 2014/15 Bundesliga kicks-off at 15:30 CET; six games will be taking place in the afternoon and one in the evening. Sunday sees two further matches taking place in the top-flight. The game at the Allianz Arena will be intriguing between two sides on top form; FC Bayern München and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, however, the most interesting clash of the weekend takes place in Borussia-Park, where Borussia Mönchengladbach take to the field against Eintracht Frankfurt (22nd November, 15:30 CET).

Christoph Kramer’s spectacular own-goal marked the end of Borussia Mönchengladbachs’s stunning start to the season. Gladbach went into the game unbeaten in 18 matches across three competitions but came unstuck against Jürgen Klopp’s side. Frankfurt are on a run of five successive defeats in competitive matches, but it remains to be seen how Gladbach will respond to their first defeat of the season, even though they have had the international break to get it out of their system. The omens are on Borussia’s side: They are unbeaten in 13 competitive home games and have already beaten Eintracht once this season – a 2-1 success in the second round of the DFB Cup.

With nearly one third of the season having been played, the table is beginning to take shape. Five further matches kick-off at 15:30 CET. FC Bayern München host TSG Hoffenheim, who will be hoping to strengthen their European credentials at the home of the Champions. The visitors include Brazil’s midweek hero in their squad: Roberto Firmino’s late winner against Austria is bound to have increased his confidence further and TSG will be hoping he can inspire them to success in the Allianz Arena. Schalke 04, who are unbeaten at home under Roberto Di Matteo, host VfL Wolfsburg. The Wolves head into the game with six consecutive Bundesliga victories but have lost on each of their last four trips to the Veltins Arena.

The ever improving SC Freiburg travel to the Coface Arena to face Mainz. Christian Streich’s side have won their last two games without conceding, whilst the hosts have only picked up one point from their three most recent Bundesliga games. Hannover 96 are at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Both sides are currently in the European places and will be hoping to strengthen their grip whilst damaging the aspirations of their opponents. The final afternoon game sees SC Paderborn host Borussia Dortmund, who will be hoping that victory over Gladbach wasn’t a false dawn and that they can continue to climb the table with victory over the newly promoted side.

Saturday’s evening match (18:30 CET) sees Köln, who have won three of their last four Bundesliga games, play Hertha BSC. Sunday’s fixtures see Hamburg host Werder Bremen and Augsburg visit VfB Stuttgart.
