Marozsan: "We need to overcome this obstacle"

The focus has shifted. The 3-1 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg in the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga last weekend is no longer being dwelt upon at 1. FFC Frankfurt. They are now fully concentrated on the future, because on Wednesday (20:00 CET), they have their first leg of the Women’s Champions League quarterfinal against FC Rosengard. The Frankfurt women are defending champions, and they are determined to win it again. "We still have a long, long way to go," said Germany international Dzsenifer Marozsan in an interview with DFB.de:.

DFB.de: Dzsenifer, you face FC Rosengard in the quarterfinal of the Champions League. Are they one of the toughest teams left in the competition?

Dzsenifer Marozsan: Yes, without a doubt. Every team is strong, that’s how it is in the Champions League quarterfinal. FC Rosengard have showed regularly in recent years that they play at a very high level.

DFB.de:: What role does Marta play in this team?

Marozsan: In my opinion she is still the best footballer in the world. Marta is dynamic, quick, very strong on the ball and clinical in front of goal. She doesn’t need many chances to score. If we are able to limit her in the match then that’s an achievement in itself.

DFB.de:: How will you approach the game on Wednesday?

Marozsan: We have a lot of respect, but we're not scared. We know that we will have our chances to win the tie, but we must put in a good performance. We have to aim to put ourselves in a good position going into the second tie. We will give our all.

DFB.de:: Do you think the fact that you are defending champions will play a role?

Marozsan: Not for us, but perhaps for our opposition. Teams may approach the game with extra motivation simply because they are facing the champions. We will have to live with that. We would love to lift the trophy once again, but we’ve still got a long way to go. We will now need to overcome one of the biggest obstacles, and then we can talk about what comes next.

DFB.de:: In the Bundesliga you just lost 3-1 to VfL Wolfsburg. Will this impact your confidence going into the game?

Marozsan: It was very frustrating, as it was an unnecessary defeat. We were gutted on the bus journey back to Frankfurt, but by Monday we knew we had to put it behind us and focus on the next game. We don’t have time to get worked up.

DFB.de:: Wolfsburg have now overtaken you into second place, thus securing the crucial Champions league qualification spot. How do you react to this?

Marozsan: We wanted to avoid that at all costs, but everything is not lost. We have six games left, and I am sure that we will get our chance to make amends. We know that we can’t afford any more setbacks; ideally we want to be winning every single one of our remaining matches.
