Markus Kauczinski named DFB Coach of the Year 2015

The top coaching prize of German football in 2015 has been awarded to Markus Kauczinski. The 46-year-old manager of second-division side Karlsruher SC was presented with the award in Frankfurt by DFB vice-president Ronny Zimmermann.

“This award is very special,” said Kauczinski. “Youth development is rarely the main focus, but it lays the groundwork for tomorrow’s Bundesliga and international stars. I am very pleased to receive acknowledgement for my work and would like to accept the award on behalf of the entire youth development system at KSC.”

Following in the footsteps of Hrubesch, Tuchel & Co.

Ronny Zimmermann congratulated him on winning the award, highlighting particularly his work in the development of youth players. “Markus Kauczinski has formed, advised and helped many young stars during his time at KSC. For example, Hakan Calhanoglu, Lars Stindl or U20 international Boubacar Barry and Grischa Prömel."

The coaching award was first given out in 2010, and winners have included Horst Hrubesch, Thomas Tuchel, Hermann Gerland, Christian Streich, Norbert Elgert and Maren Meinert. The award is decided by a DFB panel led by Dr. Rainer Koch and Dr. Reinhard Rauball, and includes a 10,000 Euro prize. It is designed to honour outstanding work from a coach in youth football.

Kauczinski worked initially at FC Schalke 04, before being appointed youth coach at Karlsruher SC, where he was able to help the U19 side achieve promotion to the U19 Bundesliga. Three years later, he became youth coordinator at the club.
