Mainz heap misery on Gladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach have suffered another setback in their quest for Champions League football next season. André Schubert's team lost 1-0 to Mainz 05 in the opening game of matchday 19, conceding their 25th goal in their last nine games, whilst Mainz scored their first goal in 305 minutes of football.

Clemens scores from range

Christian Clemens put the hosts in the lead in his 100th game and in doing so ended Mainz's goal drought. For the time being at least, Mainz have gone into sixth place, just two points behind Gladbach. The Fohlenelf, who lost 3-1 at home to Borussia Dortmund last weekend, lacked the necessary penetration despite having a host of chances.
