Linder: "We don't want to come home without a medal"

Sarai Linder has been with the German U17 women’s squad in Jordan since Monday ahead of World Cup starting on Friday. The team will be playing against Venezuela in the tournament on Friday at 14:00 CEST. The 16-year old TSG 1899 Hoffenheim defender spoke to DFB.de after their first training session about their upcoming opponent as well as the strengths and the ambitions of the team.

DFB.de: Sarai Linder, did you feel nervous before the trip to Jordan?

Sarai Linder: Yes, of course. But we felt more confident because we learnt a bit about playing in a tournament at the European Championships. But the nervousness is still there. A World Cup is something special

DFB.de: What happened after you landed in Amman?

Linder: We had breakfast at 10:30am. At 11:00am we had school lessons for an hour and a half then we had lunch. We had our first training session here in Jordan in the afternoon.

DFB.de: What did you do in the first training session?

Linder: Recovery was the priority. We were able to overcome our tiredness a little with a relaxed training session.

DFB.de: What is the atmosphere like in the team?

Linder: The atmosphere in the team is very good. We were a little tired yesterday though from the flight.

DFB.de: What are the strengths of the team?

Linder: We are good at attacking and pressing. We want to be a bit more consistent upfront.

DFB.de: What are you expecting from your opponents in the group stages?

Linder: We can’t underestimate our opponents; we are in a very strong group. We are facing South American Champions Venezuela on Friday. Canada are our next opponent, followed by Cameroon. This team are very physical and strong in one-on-one battles.

DFB.de: You won the European Championships. What are your goals for the World Cup?

Linder: I don’t want to come home without a medal. We want to dominate every game then we will be able to progress far in the tournament. But, of course, that is not going to be easy.
