Leonie Maier extends contract with Bayern until 2018

European Champion Leonie Maier has extended her contract with FC Bayern München until 30th June 2018. The news was announced by the team who are currently second in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga on Thursday afternoon. This is the the 22-year-old’s second season at Bayern and she has made 16 appearances for the first team.

“After suffering a cruciate ligament injury, Leonie is on her way back to her old form. I am certain that in the next three years she is going to further develop,” said Bayern head coach Thomas Wörle.

The Germany international, who has received 22 caps for her naitonal team, picked up the injury during an Algarve Cup match in March 2014- Her rehabilitation was successful and to date she has played in four Bundesliga games this season.
