Horst Hrubesch will have to do without captain Leon Goretzka for the quarterfinal against Portugal in Brasilia on Saturday (18:00 CEST) as well as any further matches in the tournament, as the Schalke 04 midfielder will be heading home from Belo Horizonte due to the shoulder injury he suffered in the group match against Mexico.
Despite the healing process going well and the fact he is already back in individual training, he will not be able to reach full fitness in time for the quarterfinal or a possible semi-final. It was thus decided along with the team that the best course of action would be for him to return to Germany to continue his recovery there.
It has not beem decided whether another player will be called up to replace him.
