Leo Stolz joins New York Red Bulls

Leo Stolz, who was born in Munich and was recently named the College Footballer of the Year in America, has signed his first professional contract. The New York Red Bulls secured the services of the 23-year-old in the Draft.

The length of the contract hasn’t been published. In order to join the club, he first has to pass his medical and have his sportsperson and athletes work visa application approved.

“Many thought that Leo was the best player in the Draft,” said New York’s sporting director Ali Cirtus: “We’re excited to be able to welcome a player like him to our organisation. We’re confident that Leo will be able to reach his potential with us.”

Central midfielder Stolz started his career with 1860 München. In July 2011 he moved to America, where he captained the side at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). His team reached their first College Championship final in December, but lost to Virginia on penalties.
