1. FC Kaiserslautern made a huge step towards promotion to German Bundesliga. On round 31 the team beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 away from home and are nor seven respectively eight points clear of pursuers St. Pauli and Augsburg.
Due to a 0-1 against Alemannia Aachen Rot Weiss Ahlen is the first relegated team of the Second Bundesliga.
St. Pauli suffered a setback in their fight for direct promotion when they lost 1-2 (1-1) at Union Berlin. FSV Frankfurt left the relegation zone thanks to a win at rivals Hansa Rostock.
FC Augsburg beat MSV Duisburg 2-0 (1-0) in Friday's opener and are now eight points clear of the fourth-placed team and only one point behind second-placed St. Pauli.
