Kroos scores late winner for Real

World champion Toni Kroos has sent record Spanish title-winners Real Madrid to the top of the table with his first goal of the season. The 26-year-old scored the winning goal in the 81st minute on Saturday in a close 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo. Earlier, Alvaro Morata (60’) had made it 1-0, and Fabian Orellana (67’) got the equaliser. Kroos scored with a quick-fire shot from twenty yards out to secure the overall well-deserved but not very convincing victory for head coach Zinedine Zidane’s team. Cristiano Ronaldo was out with injury and European champion Pepe was rested. With six points from two games, Madrid will stay in top spot until at least Sunday, when champions Barcelona play Athletic Bilbao.

Özil scores in Arsenal victory

World champion Mesut Özil was on target for Arsenal in their 3-1 victory away to Watford on matchday three of the Premier League. The playmaker scored a header just before the break to give Arsenal a 3-0 advantage going into half-time.

Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sánchez had given the visitors a 2-0 lead, as the Gunners sealed their first win of the season. Long term injury Per Mertesacker was not in the squad.

Leicester on course

Defending champions Leicester City also won their first game of the season with a 2-1 victory over Swansea. World Cup winner Ron-Robert Zieler was brought on in the second half for the injured Kasper Schmeichel. Former Germany international Robert Huth assisted Leicester's second which was hammered home by Wes Morgan.

Klopp’s Liverpool pegged back

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC missed out on the chance to secure their second away win of the season, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur. James Milner had given Liverpool the lead from the spot late in the first half, but Danny Rose levelled the score in the second half.

"If you take a point from Tottenham, it's a good thing for 99 percent of the teams," explained Liverpool's coach in an interview with the BBC. "We played a good away game against a strong opponent. Our only mistake resulted in us conceding a goal, which isn't really fair. It doesn't feel too great at the moment."

Emre Can was not available for Klopp due to an ankle injury, while former Mainz keeper Loris Karius is also sidelined currently with a fractured hand.

Khedira fires Juve to victory

World Cup winner Sami Khedira scored a crucial goal for Juventus for a second week running. On matchday 2 in the Serie A, the 29-year-old struck the only goal in the 1-0 win at Lazio. The former Stuttgart midfielder made the most of the Paulo Dybala’s pass in the 66th minute to his second goal in as many games. Last weekend the Germany international had bagged the opener in Juve’s 2-1 win against AC Fiorentina.
