Klose makes Lazio return in draw with Hellas

Germany international Miroslav Klose has returned to action for Italian top-flight outfit Lazio after five weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury. The 35-year-old came on as a substitute after 75 minutes of his team’s 3-3 draw with Hellas Verona in Rome on Monday evening, earning a vital penalty for I Biancocelesti shortly before the end.

"I have to keep working hard for the next week and hope I’m 100 percent fit to face Inter, because that’s a game we have to win," Klose said. Lazio must take all three points in Milan next Saturday to keep alive their hopes of a Europa League place.

Klose earns stoppage-time penalty

The man capped 131 times by Germany last week extended his stay in the Italian capital for a further year. The veteran goalscorer and centre-forward could play a pivotal role for Germany at the 2014 World Cup but has suffered a string of injury problems this season. In the meeting with Hellas, Klose came up against his former Bayern Munich strike partner Luca Toni, who has 19 goals for the Verona club this term and could yet make the Italy squad for Brazil, although he failed to find the target on Monday.

Lazio twice led through Keita (30) and Senad Lulic (60), who would be red-carded later in the game. Marquinho (37) and Juan Manuel Iturbe (69) levelled the scores before Romulo put the visitors ahead seven minutes from the end. In time added on Verona’s Michelangelo Albertazzi was dismissed for a tactical foul in the box on Klose, with Stefano Mauri seeing his initial penalty saved but netting the rebound to earn his side a point.
